Chapter 36

Before breathing in, one must breathe out; to weaken something, first strengthen it; to overthrow something, first raise it up; to take from someone, first give to them. This is called “hiding one’s light.”

The soft overcomes the hard; the weak overcomes the strong.

Fish should not be taken from the deep; a state’s sharpest instruments should not be displayed to the people.
